Jeff Balcombe is President Emeritus and has extensive knowledge of various industries and has testified over 70 times in depositions and at trials/hearings on issues related to general commercial damages, including economic damages and lost profits analyses, misappropriation of trade secret violations, purchase price disputes, wrongful contract termination, shareholder disputes, financial fraud allegations, securities class actions, and valuation issues, including the valuation of businesses and business interests, as well as fairness, solvency, and reasonably equivalent value analyses.  He has been involved in numerous appraisal processes as an independent appraiser and as a third-party neutral. On numerous occasions, Mr. Balcombe has assisted or participated in mediations and given mediation presentations to mediators, management parties, and insurance carriers. Mr. Balcombe’s clients range from individual plaintiffs to global companies and investment banks.  He has been involved in matters ranging from small commercial disputes to matters with over $25 billion at stake.

Outside of a dispute context, Mr. Balcombe has been involved in hundreds of valuations across numerous industries performed for various purposes, including financial reporting, tax, ESOPs, solvency opinions, and fairness opinions. 

In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant* who holds the designation of Accredited in Business Valuation, Certified in Financial Forensics, and Chartered Global Management Accountant awarded by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Mr. Balcombe holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation awarded by the CFA Institute, and is an Accredited Senior Appraiser in Business Valuation through the American Society of Appraisers.  He is an Expert Commentator writing about the insurance industry for the International Risk Management Institute, a highly-ranked website with over 53,000 subscribers, and is one of the Panel of Experts that writes for, and is recognized by, the Financial Valuation and Litigation Expert journal, a periodical that publishes technical valuation and litigation consulting topics and is referenced by those in his profession.  Additionally, Mr. Balcombe has given presentations involving valuation and litigation, including continuing legal education events, and is a published author.  He co-authored Financial Valuation: Applications and Models (“FVAM”), 4th Edition (April 2017) and is a contributing author to FVAM, 3rd Edition (April 2011).  At the request of the European Parliament Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, he co-authored the study, “Financial Supervision and Regulation in the US: Dodd-Frank Reform” (December 2018). 

Mr. Balcombe was the founder and president of an outdoor advertising company, which he sold to a private equity group.  Before joining BVA, he was co-founder of a software company where he was the CFO and co-inventor on a patent.  Previously, he was with Ernst and Young LLP, as well as at another firm similar to BVA.

Mr. Balcombe received a Master in Professional Accounting and Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas, where he graduated with honors.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Forensic and Valuation Services Section), CFA Institute, and American Society of Appraisers.

In addition to his role at BVA, when he is not pursuing his business interests, Mr. Balcombe enjoys involvement in charitable initiatives, such as his involvement in the Communities Foundation Collin County Community Leadership Council.  He is also passionate about spending time outdoors, hiking, Jeeping, or stargazing. He is also an advisor to a blockchain/cryptocurrency fund.
