James Wolf is BVA's New York Office Leader and Co-Leader of BVA’s Opinion Practice.

Mr. Wolf has over 35 years of experience as a valuation professional having worked with senior executives, CFOs, CEOs, and Boards. He has advised them on matters surrounding valuations, transactions, strategic financial alternatives, financial reporting, tax, and regulatory matters. Mr. Wolf’s experience ranges from entrepreneurial enterprises to fortune 500 companies and large global clients across diverse industries including financial services and asset management. He has significant experience in financial and shareholder analyses and the valuation of both equity and debt securities including derivatives such as employee stock options. Mr. Wolf has participated in and supervised valuation and strategic finance engagements for potential acquisitions or sales, including fairness opinions, reorganizations and recapitalizations, international tax transactions, gift and estate taxes, and financial reporting including allocations of purchase price and employee stock ownership plans/trusts. Mr. Wolf has also assisted clients in decision analysis for capital allocation, merger and acquisition activity, and value driver analyses. Mr. Wolf has performed valuations for a number of infrastructure and privatization projects worldwide along with valuation studies. His international experience includes leadership roles in joint global valuation projects including, fairness opinions, in countries such as Germany, France, Russia, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Australia.

Mr. Wolf has directed consulting and expert testimony for litigation purposes including dissenting shareholder suits, lost profit suits, bankruptcies, and various tax disputes involving valuation and relevant discounts, and has provided deposition and expert witness testimony in cases litigated in New York, Texas, California, Colorado, and New Jersey, including both Federal Bankruptcy Court and U.S. Federal District Court. In addition, he has chaired a number of arbitration panels.

Prior to joining BVA, Mr. Wolf was with Ernst & Young LLP for almost 30 years. During this tenure, he served as Principal in the Transaction Advisory Services New York Office, U.S. Fairness Opinion Leader for Valuation and Business Modeling, Global Liaison and Chief Operations Officer of Americas Valuation and Business Modeling, Managing Partner for Center for Strategic Transactions, and Market Leader for Valuation and Business Modeling in both Houston and Chicago, where he was responsible for successfully growing those offices. Mr. Wolf also served as Coordinating Valuation and Business Modeling Partner for several Fortune 500 companies. Prior to his tenure at Ernst & Young, Mr. Wolf served as a Vice President in the trust department for a major bank in the Southwest and as an investment/financial analyst for an insurance holding company.

Mr. Wolf has lectured at numerous conferences and seminars on valuation methodology and related issues. He has also served on several committees including Ernst & Young’s Global Steering Committee for Valuation and Business Modeling, U.S. Valuation and Business Modeling Leadership Group, and Valuation and Business Modeling Equity Risk Premium Committee. In addition to leading BVA’s New York office and co-leading BVA’s Opinion Committee, Mr. Wolf is a member of the board of directors of a biopharmaceutical company, and chairs its audit committee. Mr. Wolf received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame and his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation from the CFA Institute and is a member of the CFA Institute, a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts, and a senior member of the American Society of Appraisers.
